World Brain Day 2026 Neurological Summit

 22 July 2026

Some of our NFAWA Committee attended the WA Neurological Council's World Brain Day Breakfast at Kings Park. Sitting alongside neurologists, researchers, clinicians, advocates, community organisations and people with lived experience was a powerful reminder that real change happens when we come together with a shared purpose.

The morning began with a moving Welcome to Country by Emeritus Professor Dr Len Collard, accompanied by a deeply soul-stirring didgeridoo performance, followed by opening remarks from the Honourable Meredith Hammat MLA.

Hearing Professor Merrilee Needham speak about navigating the neurological journey reinforced so many of the challenges we see through our work and lived experience.

Dr Linda Friedland also left us with a memorable reminder that looking after our brain health requires us to rethink the way we care for ourselves. What resonated most was that, regardless of the neurological condition, the priorities are the same:

💙 Better coordinated care.

💙 Greater support for families and carers.

💙 Healthcare that sees the whole person, not just the diagnosis.

We feel incredibly proud to represent our NF community and to know that our voices are part of shaping Western Australia's first Neurological Health Strategy.

Thank you to Etta and everyone at the Neurological Council of WA for hosting such a meaningful event. Here's to continuing to work together so every person living with a neurological condition is heard, supported and valued.
