Breastcare

NF1 Patients

GET A REFFERAL to Central Referral Service (CRS)

or Go Private ($$)

for a MRI at the High-risk breast screen clinic

(All tertiary hospitals in WA)

Referrals should begin in late 20s

so you’re in the system eligible when you are 30 years old.

(Few months to get in usually)

It's important to consider that mammograms can miss cancers in younger women due to dense breast tissue - which is why adding breast MRIs in contrast to yearly screenings would be beneficial between the ages of 30-50.

Women over the age of 40 with no symptoms are provided free breast screenings through BreastScreen WA, but experts recommend starting these annual mammograms in women with NF1 a full decade earlier.
