It's important to consider that mammograms can miss cancers in younger women due to dense breast tissue - which is why adding breast MRIs in contrast to yearly screenings would be beneficial between the ages of 30-50.
Women over the age of 40 with no symptoms are provided free breast screenings through BreastScreen WA, but experts recommend starting these annual mammograms in women with NF1 a full decade earlier.
