Congratulations Stephanie!

The Neurofibromatosis Association of Western Australia (NFAWA) would like to congratulate Stephanie De Luca on her outstanding contribution as a McCusker Centre for Citizenship intern.

As a Bachelor of Human Sciences (Human Science and Neuroscience) student, Stephanie joined NFAWA at the very beginning of an ambitious project to improve awareness and understanding of neurofibromatosis (NF) in schools across Western Australia. What began as an idea quickly became a structured and strategic initiative thanks to Stephanie’s dedication, research skills and commitment to our community.

Working closely with staff, committee members and NF families, Stephanie researched best-practice education programs from around the world, identified service gaps and developed the framework that became the foundation of our school education project. Her work has since guided the development of resources and tools that continue to support students, families, educators and carers.

Beyond her research contributions, Stephanie brought genuine empathy and respect to every interaction with our community. By listening to the experiences of people living with NF, she helped ensure their voices were reflected in a meaningful and authentic way.

Reflecting on her internship, Stephanie shared:

“Hearing people’s stories made me appreciate the potential of the project in a much more personal way. It was incredibly motivating to know that the work we were doing could contribute to creating a more informed, connected and supportive community.”

We are incredibly grateful for Stephanie’s hard work and the lasting impact she has had on NFAWA. Her contribution demonstrates the value that passionate students can bring to community organisations, and we are proud to have been part of her professional journey.

Congratulations, Stephanie, and thank you for helping create a stronger, more informed and more supportive future for people living with NF and their families. We wish you every success in your future studies and career. 💙
